Girl drowns while trying to save brother in Brahmaputra

A girl drowned in the Brahmaputra river while trying to save her cousin at Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district on Sunday afternoon.

Deceased Sumaiya Akter was the daughter of Ismail Mia, a resident of Gobindapur village in the upazila. She was a Maktab student of Ladhurchar Hafizia Madrasa.

Locals said Sumaiya and her younger cousin brother Rafiq went to the river in the village to take bath in the afternoon. At one point, when Rafiq started to drowning, Sumaiya saved his brother but she drowned.
