Light machine gun (LMG) posts have been set up at all six police stations in Sylhet city in the wake of attacks on different police stations and vandalism there.
Besides, 30 to 50 additional police personnel have been deployed at each of the six police stations.
Conforming the matter, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) BM Ashraf Ullah Taher and District Police Super Fariduddin told journalists on Thursday that LMGs have been set up at all the Sylhet city and district police station.
This measure has been taken to strengthen the security of all police stations in Sylhet city and district at the directive of the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, they said.
BM Ashraf Ullah Taher said the members of the law enforcement agency were already on duty at the security posts from Thursday morning.
Additionally, action had been taken to increase security at 11 other police stations all over Sylhet district.
The move came following the Hefazat-e-Islam's countrywide violence and arson attack at police stations last month.
Ashraf Ullah Taher said some extremist groups have recently carried out subversive activities in different parts of the country. They have destroyed public property through vandalism and arson.
"In the backdrop of this situation, special security measures have been taken at six police stations, all outposts and important installations under SMP. LMG posts have been constructed with barricades at each installation," he said.
