AL MP owned cargo ship brought at N'ganj with 14 staff

Ruling Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Tonmoy owned 'MV SKL-3' lighter cargo ship, which was responsible for hitting the passenger launch 'Sabit Al Hasan' in the river Shitalakshya at Koilaghat in Narayanganj on April 4 was seized on Thursday.
The cargo ship was seized at about 11:00am from Gazaria in Munshiganj district. At that time, the name and colour of the vessel were being changed.
Besides, 14 staff including the driver of the ship were detained. Afterward, both the cargo ship and its detained staff were brought at Narayanganj Ghat.
The arrested were the ship's master Ohiduzzaman, driver Majnu, sukani Anwar, Nazmul, greaser Farhan, Ridoy, Abdullah, laskar Rakibul, Noor Islam, Sagar, Sakib, Alif and chef Bashar.
Confirming the matter, River Police's additional police super Anisur Rahman said the Coastguard personnel seized the cargo ship at about 11:00am. Later, they handed it over to police. After the seizure, the cargo ship was taken to Tanbazar Kheyaghat adjacent to the Narayanganj River Port. Here the cargo ship and its statf would remain under constant vigilance of Coastguard and River Port police.
The seized cargo ship 'MV SKL-3' is operated under the 'SK Logistics', a company owned by Sheikh Tonmoy MP from Bagerhat-2 constitunecy of Jatiya Sangsad. He is the managing director of the company.
It is learnt that after hitting the passenger launch from the rear side amid a norwester (Kalboishakhi), the cargo ship hurriedly fled the spot. Later, the colour of its exterior portion was completely changed within a shortest period to prevent its seizure. Later, it was kept anchored near the Coastguard Station at Gazaria in Munshiganj.
'Sabit Al Hasan' sank with over 50 passengers on board in the river Shitalakshya on April 4 after being hit by the cargo ship 'MV SKL-3' that left as many as 34 men, women and children dead.
Babu Lal Boidya, deputy director of the BIWTA Narayanganj, filed a murder case with Bandar Police Station in Narayanganj on Tuesday night.
