Trial in Noakhali woman assault case begins, 13 indicted

A Noakhali court has indicted 13 accused in the case filed for assaulting a woman after stripping her naked in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila to begin the trial proceedings.
Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 judge Zainal Abedin framed the charges after hearing from both sides.
The indicted persons are Md Delwar Hossain, chief of Delwar Bahini; Abu Kalam, Jamal Uddin alias Prabasi Jamal, Nur Hossain Badal, Abdur Rahim, Shamsuddin Sumon alias Contractor Sumon, Israfil Hossain Mia, Main Uddin Saju, Nur Hossain Russell, Anwar Hossain Sohagh, Abdur Rab Chowdhury alias Lamba Chowdhury, Mostafizur Rahman alias Arif, Mizanur Rahman alias Tareq.
However, the court relieved Moazzem Hossain Sohag, a ward member of Eklashpur union, of the charges following an appeal by the defence lawyer as he was not involved in the incident.
Today was scheduled for recording the depositions of witnesses but it was deferred due to a petition by the plaintiff's lawyer.
The court, later, fixed April 18 for recording the depositions.
According to the case statement, the victim had been living in her father's house at Khalpar area under Eklashpur union in Begumganj upazila for a long time because of s feud with her husband.
On September 2, last year, the victim’s husband came to visit his father-in-law’s house in the upazila. A gang of miscreants entered into the victim’s house at 9:00pm and tied her husband before torturing the woman.
Later, they undressed the housewife and tortured her brutally blaming her of engaging in unethical activities. The culprits also made a video of this torture and posted it on social media.
