Sunamganj attack: Main accused Shahidul remanded

A court in Sunamganj has also put 29 more accused on a two-day remand each.

Sunamganj Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate Shyam Kanto Sinha passed the remand order on Tuesday.
District court police inspector Selim Newaz confirmed the matter.

Earlier in the morning, police arrested two more persons in overnight drives conducted in Dirai and Shalla.

With these, 35 persons have, so far, been arrested in two cases filed over the incident.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) members arrested Shahidul Islam alias Swadhin Member, local ward Jubo League president and union parishad member, from Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar early hours on Friday (March 19).  He is the prime accused in a case.

At least 35 houses belong to the people of the Hindu community in Naogaon were damaged while 40 more houses vandalised partially in an attack on the houses of minority community on March 17 allegedly after a Hindu youth criticised Hefajat Joint Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque on social media.
