Professor Ali Ashraf, Pro Vice-chancellor of Southern University Bangladesh, died from coronavirus infection at a city hospital early Sunday. He was 70.
Prof Ashraf, also an urban planner, breathed his last at Evercare Hospital around 2.15am, said Md Saidul Islam Chowdhury, assistant director (PR) of Southern University.
He will be buried at his village home in Fatehpur area under Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram.
Earlier, the first namaz-e-janaza for Ashraf Ali will be held on the premises of Jamiatul Falah mosque in Chattogram after Zohr prayers and the second one at Jafatnagar Primary School ground.
Southern University vice-chancellor professor Md Nurul Mostafa and founder professor Sarwar Jahan expressed deep shock at the death of professor Ashraf who was also the head of the department of Civil Engineering of the university.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Chattogram Mayor valiant freedom fighter M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, city Awami League general secretary AZM Nasir Uddin and city BNP convenor Dr Shahadat Hossain condoled the death.
