Thousands more secret trackers could be following you online

With Google all set to wage a war against online trackers, AdGuard, which develops a line of ad blocking and privacy protection browser extensions, has released a list of over six thousand CNAME-based web trackers.

CNAME (canonical name) is a DNS record used to rename another domain name - so thanks to CNAME it is possible to run multiple services from one IP address. However, online advertisers and other unscrupulous agents misuse CNAME records to hide tracking scripts behind trusted domains.
“As content blocking has taken on massive proportions, most of the additional tracking tools have proven to be fairly useless. However, the market tended to push for more data collection, pushing it as far as possible. Some choose the perfect approach, and some look for more innovative ways to collect user data," Edgard CEO Andrei Meshkov noted in a blog post that he was sharing a list of CNN's offensive trackers.
