Gas cylinder explosion at residential building; 3 of a family injured

Three members of a family sustained burn injuries from a gas cylinder blast at a six-storey building in Sadar upazila of Feni district on Friday night.

The incident took place on the fourth floor of Shafique Bhaban at ward No. 16 under Feni municipality at about 11:00pm, Feni town police outpost in-charge Sudwip Chandra Roy confirmed.

The injured are Meherunnesa Mithi, 32, and her two daughters Hafsa Islam, 16, and Farha Islam, 18.

Mithi and Hafsa are now undergoing treatment at the Incentive Care Unit (ICU) of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

More than 50 percent of their bodies were burnt in the incident, said Nayon Chandra Debnath, a physician at Feni Sadar General Hospital.

Farha was given first aid at the hospital

Meanwhile, superintendent of Feni police Khandaker Nurunnabi and personnel from Feni Fire Service and Civil Defence visited the scene.
