Bangabandhu’s daughter, her govt are sports friendly: Hasan

Awami League Joint General Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government are sports friendly.
“She herself is a sports-friendly prime minister and our cricket has got Test status through her hands. Our girls won the Asia Cup by beating the Indian girls,” he added.
Highlighting the success of Bangladesh’s youth cricket team which became the world champion, Dr Hasan said all these achievements came due to the prime minister earnest and relentless efforts.
Dr Hasan stated these as the chief guest while distributing prize of late Advocate Nurushsfa Talukder Smriti Gold Cup Football Tournament held at Padua Multipurpose High School field under Rangunia Upazila in Chattogram.
UP Chairman Golam Kabir Talukder presided over the function while Adel Sadiq Mahmud, a child member of Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela, inaugurated the final match.
Rangunia poura mayor Shahjahan Sikder, Rangunia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Masudur Rahman, Chairman of Sukhbilas Fisheries and Plantation Ershad Mahmud, Chairman of Eden English School Khaled Mahmud and Bodhisarri Bhikkhu Principal of Chandgaon Shantimoi Monastery, among others, spoke.
Hasan Mahmud said that there is no alternative to sports for the physical and mental development of youth.
“They need to be involved in creative activities through organizing sports. Due to absence of sports, our youths are now going astray in many cases. Addiction to social media is also affecting our teenagers. That is why it is very important to keep the sports going by organizing various tournaments,” he said.
“Our Rangunia is very rich in sports as 2/3 players can make their place in the national football team every year. There are still two players from Rangunia in the national team,” he information minister added.
Dr. Hasan appreciated the organizers to arrange football tournament every year to create more players from Rangunia.
AL leaders Idris Azgar, Nazrul Islam Talukder, Abu Jafar Chairman, Abdul Qayum Talukder, Nur Qutbul Alam, Mujibul Haque Hiru, Nasir Uddin Selim, Jahangir Alam Talukder Badsha, Abdur Rauf Master, Ariful Islam Chowdhury, Abu Taher and Kawsar Alam, among others, were present on the occasion.
Khurushia Junior Ekta Sangha defeated Napit Pukuria Ekta’71 by 1-0 in the final match.
Later, Dr. Hassan Mahmood presented the prizes among the winners and runners-up team.
