'Jiner Rani' jailed for two years in fraud case

A 50-year-old woman, who claimed herself as ‘Jiner Rani’ (Queen of Jinn), was sentenced to two years of imprisonment for swindling a big amount of money in the name of providing treatment.

Rahela Begum, a resident of Borail village under Mohonpur upazila in Rajshahi district, was also fined Tk 5,000, in default to suffer rigorous imprisonment for a further period of three months.

Rajshahi senior judicial magistrate Saiful Islam delivered the verdict on Thursday.

According to the court sources, she used to claim herself ‘Jiner Rani’ and swindled money by providing fake treatment of 'Tabij-Kabaj' to patients.

Later, one of the victims filed a case against her.

After taking depositions of 13 witnesses, the court sentenced her the jail term as the allegations of fraudulence were proved.
