Sufferings mount as bus plying in Rajshahi halts over BNP's rally
Suspension of bus plying in Rajshahi division centering BNP's divisional rally brought immense suffering to passengers on Tuesday.
Without any prior announcement, the suspension remained effective since Monday morning ahead of Tuesday's rally in Rajshahi city demanding holding an impartial election and protesting alleged vote rigging.
As the buses did not run, passengers of long-distance became got stranded in the area. Other passengers had to board on alternative vehicles paying extra fares.
Regarding the matter, Rajshahi Bus Owners' Association general secretary Motiul Huque Tito said they stopped plying of the buses fearing attacks on their vehicles and transport workers.
Meanwhile, the BNP held a rally near a community center at Madrasa Maidan in Rajshahi city on Tuesday afternoon.
BNP's standing committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku was present as the chief guest while BNP chairperson's advisors Lt Col (Rtd) Abdul Latif, Mizanur Rahman Minu, and Habibur Rahman Habib, joint secretary Mojibar Rahman Sarwar, and Chattogram City BNP president Dr Shahadat Hossain, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The speakers called the party leaders and activists to take preparations to topple down the government. They also took a fresh vow to restore democracy in the country by launching a greater movement.
Though the road communication of the city was disrupted with the rest of the country, the leaders and activists came to the rally boarding different vehicles, and on foot. They started joining the rally bringing out small processions since the noon.
