Plying of buses on all routes is Rajshahi have been suspended suddenly without any prior announcement. The sudden announcement of the bus plying suspension from Monday morning has caused huge sufferings among the common passengers.

However, leaders of bus owners’ association did not specifically mention the reasons behind the suspension of plying of buses. It is assumed that bus services between Rajshahi and other parts of the country has been suspended because of the BNP’s divisional rally scheduled to be held on tomorrow.

Transport owner and worker leaders in Rajshahi said there is a risk of attack if the bus runs. Therefore, considering the safety of the workers, they have stopped the bus service for the time being. After understanding the situation, they will decide to run the bus again.

Matiul Haque Tito, general secretary of the Rajshahi Bus Owners’ Association, said, “BNP will hold a divisional rally in Rajshahi tomorrow. Because of this rally, there might be chaos and terrorist attacks on vehicles. We have stopped the bus service from Monday morning because of this reason.”

However, Mahatab Hossain, general secretary of the Rajshahi District Motor Workers Union, said one of their workers had been beaten in Bogura. “They are observing previously announced programme demanding the arrest of the perpetrators.”

Meanwhile, passengers have suffered due to the sudden suspension of bus plying from Rajshahi. Many of them were seen returned from bus counters. Besides, they are leaving for their respective destinations in other vehicles through alternative routes. Chapainawabganj counters also have been kept closed.

Passenger Arif Ahmed said he works at a company in Dhaka. That is why he wanted to go to Dhaka. However, he came to the counter and found out that the bus service was stopped.

Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP President Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul said they yet not get permission and venue for holding divisional rally from the concerned authorities. In addition to this, bus services from Rajshahi to Dhaka have been stopped since the morning, he added.

“The reason for this is not to allow people to join our divisional rally, nothing else. It is an attempt to foil the divisional rally.”
