Six women held in Sirajganj children theft incident

Police have detained six women in connection  with stealing two children from Sirajganj hospitals within five days.  

Of them, one Kalpana Khatun,25, wife of Saddam of Alokdia village under Salonga Police Station, was shown arrested.

Five other women were detained for interrogation, police said.

Earlier, police, in a  raid, rescued a child alive and recovered a dead one from a house in Alokdia around 10:30pm on Saturday.

Dead child Mahim was the son of Chayan Islam and Manjuara of Bhadalia village in Ullapara upazila while  alive Samiul is the son of Abdul Majed and Sabita Khatun, residents of Sthal village in Chatmohor of Pabna.

Salanga police OC Abdul Quader Jilani said Shakhwat H Memorial Hospital was visited after a one-day baby was stolen from the hospital on Saturday.

After reviewing the hospital's CCTV footage , police raided Saddam's house and found the infant in Kalpana's lap.

After searching the house, Mahim's body was recovered from a stack of paddy.

Twenty-nine-day-old Mahim was stolen from  Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital on February 23.

During the raid, police arrestd Kalpana and detained five more women who were staying nearby the house, said Hasibul Alam, superintendent of Sirajganj Police.
