Plying of buses and minibuses on all domestic routes in Khulna has been suspended.
According to a decision of the Khulna District Bus-Minibus-Coach Owners' Association, plying of buses and minibues on all internal routes of Khulna will remain suspended for 24 hours--from 6:00pm on Friday to 6:00pm--on Saturday.
Leaders of the bus owners' association did not specifically mentioned the reasons behind the suspension of plying of buses and minibuses for 24 hours.
However, local BNP leaders said BNP will hold a grand rally in Khulna city on Saturday, and police forced the Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners' Association to suspend plying of their vehicles for 24 hours so that the leaders and activists cannot join the BNP rally.
Khulna District Bus-Minibus-Coach Owners' Association's joint secretary Anwar Hossain said they heard that there might be an indiscipline and chaos in Khulna city on Saturday. Because of it, decision has been taken to suspend the plying of buses and minibuses in the district for 24 hours.
Khulna City BNP president Nazrul Islam Manju said BNP would hold a rally at the Maharaj Chattar at 3:00pm on Saturday. In order to disrupt the rally, police have forced the bus-minibus owners' association members and transport workers' leaders asking them not to operate their vehicles in Khulna city and district on Saturday.
"But, police won't be able to stop the rally forcing the bus owners to suspend plying of their vehicles," he asserted.
