A total of 49 migrant workers including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas were detained by Malaysia’s Immigration Department.

Among the detained persons, 12 were Bangladesh nationals, 23 Rohingyas and 14 Indonesians.

They were detained during a raid at a construction site on Thursday for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and not having COVID-19 test reports.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the drive was conducted in order to enforce SOPs. Some 23 workers did not have COVID certificates as it was mandatory for them.
