BSF 'beats Bangladeshi man' during planting

Indian Border Security Force has reportedly beat up a Bangladeshi farmer at Haripur border area in Thakurgaon district when he was planting Boro seedling in his land.

Victim Shah Alam, 17, is the son of Md Nazrul Islam, a resident of Manikkhari village in Haripur upazila.

Local sources said Shah Alam went to his land in the border area near Pillar No. 367 on Tuesday morning.

At one stage of cultivation, BSF Koalighar Camp members entered into the area around 5pm and dragged Shah Alam to the barbed-wire fence where they mercilessly beat him.

Later, family members of the victim rescued him and rushed to Haripur Upazila Health Complex.

Habib, commander of Betna BGB camp, said they sent a letter to BSF in the evening to hold a flag meeting regarding the incident.
