DU halls to reopen on May 17: VC

The residential halls of Dhaka University (DU) will not be opened before May 17, said Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.

He disclosed the decision after attending a meeting of the academic council on Tuesday.

Dr Akhtaruzzaman said as per the government decision, the dormitories will be reopened on May 17 after remaining closed for over a year.

The halls will be opened and classes will resume after the students get vaccinated. They will be brought under vaccination within April 17.

However, the ongoing examination at the university may be held based on the consent of the students, he remarked.

Earlier, the students gave a 72-hour ultimetum to open the halls.

Regarding the matter, Dr Akhtaruzzaman expressed the hope that the students would respect the decision of the government and the administration on logical ground.
