Rakib Hasan, former husband of Tamima Tammi who recently married cricketer Nasir Hossain, among three people and a rights organisation have served legal notice to the government seeking instructions to digitise marriage and divorce registrations.
Supreme Court lawyer Ishrat Hasan sent the notice on Monday on behalf of Rakib Hasan, Shohag Hossain, Kamrul Hasan and ‘Aid for Men Foundation’ to the secretaries of Law, Information and Technology and Religious Affairs ministries asking to take steps to digitise the marriage and divorce registrations process.
Cricketer Nasir Hossain has recently tied the knot with Tamima Tammi on Valentine’s Day. A debate has already created over this marriage as Rakib Hasan claimed himself as the first husband of Tamima.
At the height of the ongoing controversy over this marriage in media, Aid for Man Foundation, an organization which works for men’s rights, said that they would stand by Rakib for legal assistance.
Saiful Islam Nadim, general secretary of the organization, in an interview said, “Rakib’s wife Tamima Tammi has married cricketer Nasir without divorcing her husband which is a legally punishable offense. As Nasir and Tamima are influential in this issue, they are threatening Rakib in various ways. In such a situation we are by the side of Rakib.”
“On Sunday evening, we met with victim Rakib on behalf of the organization and promised to stand by his side,” he added.
The notice said, “As marriage and divorce registration is not digital, the victims are getting involved in numerous cases. So, if the marriage and divorce is registered on the website with photo, any party can see it before involved in marriage and the number of cases will also decrease.”
Nasir married cabin crew Tamima Tammi on Valentine’s Day last Sunday. But within a week it was learned that Nasir’s newly married wife had another marriage.
Rakib claimed that Tamima married Nasir without divorcing him.
Rakib lodged a GD with Uttara West Police Station on Thursday night in this regard. The police station OC Shah Md. Akhtaruzzaman Elias has confirmed the matter to media.
