A madrasa student was beaten to death over theft of a mobile phone set at Manirampur upazila in Jashore district on Wednesday.

Quoting locals, Manirampur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said some local people beat up Mamun mercilessly after tying up his hands and legs at the house of one Aynal early Wednesday on charge of stealing a mobile phone set.
The boy was tortured there for more than four hours.
On information, police rescued Mamun and took him to Manirampur Upazila Health Complex
where he succumbed his injuries at about 3:00pm on Wednesday, OC Rafiqul said.
Local UP member Anisur Rahman said Mamun used to steal mobile phone sets, electric water pump machines.
Nearly eight months ago he stole a mobile phone of Aynal and returned it after village arbitration, he alleged.
Mamun’s mother Sakina Begum said, ‘Mamun went out of his home on Tuesday night around 3:00am and I came to know that he was beaten over theft charge at the house of Aynal. When I reached there, I found him in a critical condition.’
The victim’s father filed a case with the police station against twelve people.
However, police arrested three people in this connection, the police official added.
