Death toll from Gazipur factory fire reached three as two more bodies were recovered on Saturday morning.
Earlier on Thursday, a massive fire broke out at ASM Chemical Factory at Tepirbari village in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila.
Two newly recovered bodies were sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
They are Ahsraful Islam, 50, hailed from Tangail, and Nasir, 39, from Daudkandi of Cumilla district.
Before them, another worker Alamgir Hossain’s body was recovered.
Abdur Rauf, assistant general manager of the factory, said financial assistance was given to the victims’ family.
Deputy Director of Department of Environment (DoE), Gazipur, Abdus Salam said receiving complaint from locals, the factory was fined Tk 3 lakh for environment pollution and their permission from DoE was suspended.
Later, the factory received permission from DoE after fulfilling all required conditions.
Sreepur Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Khandakar Imam Hossain said a case was filed in this connection over the death of worker for negligence of the authority.
