The spontaneous presence of the voters in Pabna municipality elections has created a joyous atmosphere. Anisur Rahman, 60, of Shalgarhia, said he had not seen such a beautiful vote in the last 20 years.
Saira Khatun of Shalgarhia area said he had never seen such a vote before and she casts her vote in s free and fair atmosphere. Ignoring the cold winds hundreds of early morning polling booths have turned into festive centers.
According to the district election office, there are 1 lakh 12 thousand 244 voters in 15 wards of Pabna municipality. Of these, 58,040 are male voters and 54,204 are female voters. Voters cast their votes from 8am to 4pm in a peaceful manner.
A total of 64 candidates were contested for the post of general councilor and 18 candidates were contested for the post of reserved women councilor.
Meanwhile, the field of politics has become quite active with the mayoral candidate in the Pabna municipal election. Ali Murtaza Biswas Soni, convener of the district Jubo League and vice-president of the Pabna Chamber of Commerce and Industries, was contesting the municipal elections with ‘Boat’ symbol.
Besides, mayoral candidate Sharif Uddin Prodhan contested as a rebel after being deprived of party nomination.
Former joint general secretary of the district unit BNP and former VP of Edward College Nur Mohammad Masum Boga contested with the symbol of BNP's ‘Sheaf of paddy’ symbol while Chowdhury Mohammad Mahabubul Haque from Jatiya Party and Abu Bakkar Siddique from Islami Andolan Bangladesh jointed the contest.
