Rajuk plots forgery: Case against Partex Group chairman's sons to continue

High Court on Thursday rejected a plea for cancellation of a corruption case filed against Partex Group's late chairman MA Hashem's two sons--Shawkat Aziz Russel and Ashfaque Aziz--and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk)'s former members SD Fayez and AKM Wahidul Islam for their alleged involvement in irregularities for allocation of residential plots at Purbachal project.

As a result, there will be no bar to continue the case proceedings against the accused.

A virtual High Court bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim rejected the plea.

Advocate Abdur Razzaque Khan and Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun appeared at the hearing on behalf of the accused, while Rajuk was represented by Advocate KM Saifuddin and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) by Khurshid Alam Khan. Deputy Attorney Generals AKM Aminuddin Manik and assistant attorney generals Mahjabin Rabbani Deepa and Anna Khanam Koli argued on behalf of the state.

Deputy attorney general AKM Aminuddin Manik told journalists that the High Court issued a rule and a stay order on the plea of cancellation of the case on November 14, 2020, while the pleas of SD Fayez and AKM Wahidul Islam were rejected outright.

The ACC's case statement reveals that Partex Group's founding chairman MA Hashem's two sons--Shawkat Aziz Russel and Ashfaque Aziz--were allocated two pieces of land, comprising 20 kathas, at Purbachal project by "abusing of power and using influence" when Iqbal Uddin Chowdhury was the chairman of Rajuk.

"But, they didn't get the allocation of the plots applying under the quota of industrialist in the Purbachal project. They also withdrew their security deposits being failed to receiving the allocation of plots. Though the applicants who withdraw their applications are not qualified for consideration, Rajuk gave them the allocation of two plots convening a special board meeting. Because of it, the board members were made accused in the case.

Other accused of the case are Rajuk's former five members (now retired)--SD Fayez, AKM Wahidul Islam, SM Zafarullah, HM Zahurul Huque and Rezaul Karim Tarafder.
