Police, admin take the role of opponent against BNP, alleges Fakhrul

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that police and administration have taken the role of opponent against the party instead of Awami League.

“It is a matter of sorrow that the administration is now being used to the fullest in elections. BNP’s opponent is no longer Awami League but police and administration,” said Fakhrul at a programme at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan political office in Dhaka on Thursday.

At the progamme, former lawmaker of Nilphamari-4 constituency and Jatiya party leader Shawkat Chowdhury joined BNP.

About recently Chattogram City Corporation polls, BNP secretary general said, “The election was absolutely bloody. Two to three people killed. BNP agents were not allowed to stay at the center. They were ousted from centers after assault.”

Fakhrul further said, “We have always said that Election Commission is not a neutral organization. This organization has now become a sycophantic organization of Awami League.”

He said, “Joining of Shawkat Chowdhury has proved that people of Bangladesh now want democracy. They want to talk now and want to get their rights back. But unfortunately for us, today the unelected government is grabbing the power illegally using the state apparatus.”

BNP’s Rangpur divisional organizing secretary Asadul Habib Dulu, Rajshahi divisional organizing secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu and Rangpur divisional assistant organizing secretary Abdul Khaleq, among others, were present.
