Supporters of two councillor candidates clashed outside a polling centre at Pahartali in the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election on Wednesday, leaving a pedestrian dead and eight more people injured.

The deceased was identified as Alauddin, son of Sultan Mia of Cumilla.

Witnesses said the supporters of Awami League-backed councilor candidate of No 13 Ambagan ward Mohammad Wasim and Awami League rebel candidate locked into a clash in front of Ambagan Technical School centre under Pahartali ward 13 around 10am.

Alauddin received bullet wounds during the clash. He was whisked off to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

The CMCH police outpost ASI Alauddin Talukder confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, another man was killed in an attack reportedly by his brother in Pahartali area following a dispute over the election.
