Indian student 'commits suicide' in Rajshahi
An Indian student of a private medical college in Rajshahi has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his room at the college dormitory.
Deceased Iqbal Sharif, 25, was the son of Mozammel Hossain, a resident of Murshidabad district of India's West Bengal state. He was a fifth year student of Barind Medical College in Rajshahi.
Dr BK Dam, principal of the medical college, said Sharif went to his village home in India as the medical college was closed due to coronavirus.
He returned on January 20. Since then, he had been staying in the dormitory designated for the college's foreign students.
On Friday night, his friends found the door of his room locked from inside. They, later, broke open the door as they did not get any response despite several times calling, and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.
However, they immediately took him to the hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he added.
Confirming the matter, Chandrima Police Station officer in-charge Sirajum Munir said police assumed that he might have committed suicide.
