Man held for assaulting traffic sergeant in Rajshahi

Police have arrested a man who physically assaulted a traffic police sergeant in Rajshahi city on Tuesday when the sergeant wanted to check the document of his motorcycle.

A team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police arrested Belal Hossain, 26, from Natore’s Madrasa moar at 1.00am, said RMP commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique at a press conference on Thursday.

“Document of Belal’s motorcycle was invalid and we collected information from BRTA in this regard. When Sergeant Bipul Kishore stopped him and asked for document he became angry and started to beat the sergeant,” said the police commissioner.

Abu Kalam said they will quiz the accused for investigation and take legal steps in this regard.

On Tuesday, Belal beat sergeant Kishore with a piece of wood when he wanted to check the document of his motorcycle at Rajshahi’s Beelshimla Oitijjo Chattar, leaving him critically injured.
