The 55-year-old Khalid Hossain was the telephone operator in-charge at BSS.
Gendaria police said the accident happened at about 2:05pm at Doyaganj crossing near Hanif Flyover at Tikatuli area in the capital.
Critically injured Khalid Hossain was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later on.
BSS' journalist Mohsin said Khalid Hossain was coming to the BSS office at Purana Paltan by his motorcycle from his residence at Dogair Purbopara in Demra. When he arrived at Doyaganj crossing near Hanif Flyover in Tikatuli area, a speeding garbage truck of the DSCC rammed his motorbike, leaving Khalid dead right on the road.
Instantly, pedestriants rushed Khalid's body to nearby Salahuddin Hospital where an on-duty doctor pronounced him as dead.
Later, his body was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for postmortem.
Gendaria Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Saju Mia said the driver of the killer truck was arrested. Besides, the truck was seized and taken to the police station concerned.
A case was filed in this regard.
Khalid Hossain left behind his wife, two sons and two daughters to mourn his death.
Receiving the news of Khalid Hossain's death, BSS' managing editor M Anisur Rahman, journalists and employees rushed to the spot. A pall of gloom descended on the BSS family over his death.
BSS managing director and chief editor Abul Kalam Azad expressed profound shock at the death of Khalid Hossain. The BSS authorities also conveyed their deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
