The High Court on Tuesday ruled that CNG-run private auto-rickshaws would not be allowed to ply on roads in Dhaka as commercial vehicles.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued the rule rejecting a writ petition filed in 2016 by Private CNG-Auto Rickshaw Owners' Welfare Association's financial secretary Delwar Hossain Soudagar.
In July 2016, the High Court asked the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) chairman and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner not to disturb 1,546 CNG-private auto rickshaws running in the capital.
The court issued the directive after hearing the writ petition that sought permission to run the private auto-rickshaws in the capital for commercial purpose.
