Rifat murder: 3 juvenile convicts get bail

Three juvenile convicts in sensational Rifat murder case have secured bail from the High Court.

Two-member HC bench passed the order on Monday morning.

Barguna Juvenile Court Judge Md Hafizur Rahman on October 27, last year, awarded 11 juvenile convicts in different terms of simple imprisonment in the murder case.

While delivering the verdict, the court clarified that the conviction was given to prevent the trend of popping up of teen gang culture.  

Of the 11 convicts, six were given 10 years of simple imprisonment for their direct involvement in the murder while four to five years and one to three years of simple imprisonment.

Those given 10 years' simple imprisonment are Mohammad Rashidul Hasan Rishan Faraji, Mohammad Rakibul Hasan Rifat Hawladar, Mohammad Abu Abdullah Raihan, Mohammad Oliullah Oli, Mohammad Naeem and Tanvir Hossain while Jaychandra Sarkar Chandan, Md Nazmul Hasan, Rakibul Hasan Niyamt, Syed Maruf Billah alias Mahibullah were jailed for five years.

However, three accused were acquitted as their guilt was not proved.

Rifat Sharif, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of his wife Ayesha Siddika Minni in broad daylight in Barguna town on June 26, 2019. The incident was caught on surveillance camera.

The following day, the victim's father filed the murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station.

On September 1, the same year, police submitted investigation report against 24 people. Of them, 10 are adult while 14 are juvenile.
