Mayor, 12 councilor candidates boycott Mongla polls

Bringing allegation of irregularities and vote rigging, 13 councilor candidates including a BNP mayor candidate have boycotted Bagerhat's Mongla port municipality election.

The candidates announced the vote boycott around 10:44am on Saturday at BNP mayoral candidate Julfiker Ali's residence.

Julfiker Ali alleged that Awami League supporters occupied all polling stations soon after the voting started. They drove out BNP agents.

Of the 13 candidates, nine including two Jammat-backed candidates were contesting for councilor posts while four women for reserved seats.
