Bangladesh Navy athletes Ismail Hossain and Shirin Akter emerged as the fasted man and woman of the country after winning their respective 100-metre sprint titles of the 44th National Athletics Championship that began on Friday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

In the day's most attractive event. M Ismail Hossain of Bangladesh Navy emerged as the fastest man of the country by clinching the men's 100-metre gold medal in just 10.55 seconds.

Celebrated Navy athlete Shirin Akter retained her fastest woman crown for the ninth time in a row by winning the women's 100-metre sprint title clocking 11.80 seconds.

Though the 44th National Athletics Championship that began on Friday, State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russel will inaugurate the three-day meet on Saturday afternoon.

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh will distribute the prizes at the concluding function on Sunday.

A total of 450 athletes from different districts, divisions, universities, education boards, physical education colleges, BJMC, BKSP and other affilitaed bodies are taking part in the three-day meet  of 36 events.
