Equinox, Moss Maritime to test floating solar generation |
![]() Equinox, Moss Maritime to test floating solar generation Equinor is already an offshore wind major. Now the company will explore the opportunities within offshore solar power. Together with Moss Maritime the company wants to start testing off the island of Frøya. "If we succeed here, we can succeed anywhere," said Hanne Wigum. He is the head of Equinor's technology unit, focusing on wind and solar power. Towards the end of the summer of 2021, there are plans to build a floating pilot plant from Fria near Trondheim. It will become the world's first pilot plant for solar power floating in rough water. The municipality of Frere was positive and involved in the planning of the pilot plant. Equino has applied to the Norwegian Department of Water Resources and Energy. With a plan to measure 60 meters x 60 meters, the plant will place a minaret less than 3 meters above sea level. According to the plan, the pilot will be tested for a minimum of one year. The project is a collaboration between Aquino and technology firm Moss Maritime. GY |
