BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that government is trying to 'plunder public money' through procuring coronavirus vaccines.
"Coronavirus vaccines are being procured from India with higher prices. Per dose vaccine which costs US $2 is being purchased at US $5 only for committing corruption," he said.
Mirza Fakhrul came up with the allegation while speaking a rally held in protest against the arrest warrant issued against BNP acting Chairman Tareque Rahman.
According to Reuters report, Serum Institute of India, the world's biggest vaccine maker, plans to sell 100 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine for 200 rupees ($2.73) each to the Indian government, and will charge slightly higher for subsequent purchases while Bangladesh's Beximco Pharmaceuticals will buy up to 3 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India at about $8 each for sale on the private market,
Alleging that repression has been unleashed in a planned way for last 12 years to detroy country's democracy, Mirza Fakhrul said, "There is no rule of law in the country as the judiciary was destroyed."
He also called upon all to stage protest unitedly to protect country's democracy and demanded withdrawal of 'false cases' filed against Tareque Rahman.
