KURIGRAM, Aug 16: Corruption has been surfaced in the distribution process of stipend money among the students of different government primary schools here.
According to sources, through collaboration between bank officials and headmasters, each of the students got Tk 600 and some got even Tk 300 instead of the government-fixed amount of Tk 1,200; besides, the money granted for tree plantation and school reformation, has also been embezzled.
On behalf of the students and guardians of Goailpuri Mondal Para Government Primary School under Jatrapur union in Kurigram Sadar upazila, Md Mona Molla alleged that on July 20 last, officials of Rupali Bank Belal Hossen and Hormuz Ali distributed Tk 600 to each of the students of the above-mentioned school and even Tk 300 to some students, instead of the government-allocated money.
It was alleged that acting Headmaster of the school Mamtaz Begum and bank official Belal Hossen embezzled the money on the excuse of expenditure for the school's development. Besides, Tk 120 was deduced from each student for making their stipend card, locals alleged.
President of the school managing committee Shahid Mondal and other members informed, besides embezzling the stipend money, the Headmaster Mamtaz Begum misappropriated Tk 40,000 sanctioned for tree plantation and reformation at the school by forging their signatures. They demanded proper investigation into the matter.
When contacted, the headmaster denied the allegations and said, on July 20 last, the bank authority distributed stipend not only among the students of Goailpuri Mondal Para Government Primary School, but at other schools also.
While talking, Rupali Bank official Belal Hossen said that not he but his colleague Hormuz Ali went to that school for distributing stipend.
When contacted through mobile phone, Hormuz Ali said, at first dispute surfaced after distributing Tk 300 to each student, but later it was solved following distribution of the actual amount of money in presence of the local elites.
