Journalist Kajol freed from jail


Photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol was released from Dhaka Central Jail on Friday after spending more than seven months behind bars.

He was released from the jail at about 11.15 am, said his son Monorom Polok.
On December 17, the High Court granted bail to journalist Kajol in two cases filed under the Digital Security Act.

On March 10 last, photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol was abducted when he was returning home from his office in Dhaka. He was rescued from Benapole border in Jashore at night on May 2.

Though he was first shown arrested in a case for illegal tresspassing, he was later shown arrested in a Digital Security Act case.

Ruling Awami League lawmaker Saifuzzaman Sikhor and two female leaders of Jubo League filed the cases against him.

He was kept in Jashore jail from May 2 to June 22. Then he was brought in Dhaka under the Digital Security Act.
