The High Court (HC) has asked Salina Islam, wife of lawmaker Shahid Islam alias Kazi Papul, and their daughter Wafa Islam to surrender by December 28 in a graft case filed over laundering Tk1.48 billion.
The virtual HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order on Tuesday.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan was present in the dock on behalf of ACC while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin represented the state.
Earlier, a Dhaka court asked the duo to surrender but they failed as the trial courts were on 10 days vacation.
Md Salahuddin, deputy director of the Anti-Corruption commission (ACC), lodged the case accusing Papul, Salina Islam, Wafa Islam and Papul's sister-in-law Jasmin Akter on November 11.
On June 7, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Kuwait arrested Papul, lawmaker from Laxmipur-2, on an allegation of his involvement in human trafficking.
Following the arrest, the Kuwaiti government froze Shahid's bank account. He holds about five million Kuwaiti dinars or Tk 1.38 billion in those accounts.
MP Papul is now in Kuwait jail.
