Nur sued over 'sedition, defamation'

A case has been filed against Nurul Haque Nur, former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), on charges of sedition, defamation, and provoking riots.

Brahmanbaria Chhatra League president Rabiul Hossain Rubel filed the case with the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Begum on Sunday.

On December 16, Nur tried to instigate people by making aggressive, false, and derogatory remarks about the government and state institutions on Facebook, according to the case statement.

Nur called the Election Commission "useless commission" and the government an "illegal and unelected" one, the statement also said.
