Man held with 14 gold bars at Sylhet airport

Customs Intelligence on Friday arrested a passenger coming from Dubai with 14 gold bars and ornaments at Sylhet Osmani International Airport.

The arrested was Jamil Ahmed, 28, a resident of Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria district.

Customs Intelligence assistant director Al Amin said acting on a tip-off, customs officials searched after a flight from Dubai landed at Sylhet Osmani Airport at 8:45am and found 12 gold bars which were hidden in Jamil’s luggage.

“Two more gold bars and some gold ornaments were seized from his handbag,” added the official.

The seized gold has an estimated market value of approximately Tk 1.5 crore.

Legal action would be taken against Jamil, said Al Amin.
