ASI of police injured in criminal's firing in capital

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was injured in firing by criminals at Rayerbazar in the city's Mohammadpur on Thursday.

He was admitted to Suhrawardy Hospital. The incident happened at about 9:30am.

Police went to Rayerbazar area at about 9:30am to arrest Rakib, an warranted accused. At that time, police personnel saw four to five persons in a room. Suspecting one Ibrahim as the accused Rakib, ASI Uzzal Hossain Khan of Mohammadpur Police Station caught him on the spot. At that time, criminal Ibrahim fired two rounds of shot at ASI Uzzal from his pistol. Police also responded firing at Ibrahim. They later arrested him.

Injured both ASI Uzzal Hossain Khan and Ibrahim were first sent to Suhrawardy Hospital, and  then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

ASI Uzzal said he found four to five young men inside a room when they went there to arrest warranted accused Rakib. "I tried to identified the accused Rakib. One of the youths tried to leave the room. When I tried to catch him, he fired at me from his pistol," he said.
