Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi are likely to have a virtual meeting on December 17 over a number of issues.

According to the Indian media reports on Thursday, the virtual meeting between the two prime ministers will take place on December 17.
The reports reveal that the meeting is expected to be held on December 17. Both sides finalised the date and time after holding talks. An inter-ministerial meeting at the Indian External Affairs Ministry was held ahead of the meeting of two prime minister where details about the meeting agenda were discussed.

During the virtual meeting between Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi at 11:00am on December 17, four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed.

Besides, the two premiers will joint inaugurate the Haldibari-Chilahati Rail Line virtually.

Quoting sources, the Indian media reports further said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to visit Dhaka on March 26. If the coronavirus situation improves, the Indian premier will arrive in Dhaka. During the meeting on December 17, Sheikh Hasina may invite Narendra Modi to visit Dhaka.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen is supposed to visit New Delhi before the prime minister-level talks for finalizing the agendas of the meeting. However, his visit has become uncertain after he was tested Covid-19 positive.

The last bilateral talks between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was held in New Delhi on October 5 last year.

The Indian premier was scheduled to visit this year to join the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but the trip was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dhaka has invited Narendra Modi to visit in person on March 26 to join the nation's celebration of the 50 years of independence.

On November 5, a MoU was signed between Serum Institute of India and Beximco Pharma of Bangladesh for priority delivery of 30 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladesh.

The two countries also established air connectivity under an "air bubble arrangement" amid the pandemic.
