SCF VP Anwarul Alam Shaheed dies of Covid-19

Valiant freedom-fighter, former secretary and ambassador, and vice-president of Sector Commanders Forum (SCF) Anwar ul Alam Shaheed has died at a hospital in the capital.  He was 73.

He breathed his last at United Hospital around 12 noon on Thursday while undergoing treatment, doctors said.
He said a tumour was removed from Anwarul Alam Shaheed's brain on November 1 last after he was admitted to the hospital. Then his physical condition worsened. Afterward, he was tested Covid-19 positive. Later, he became freed from Coivid-19. But he was kept under ventilation as his condition was not improved.

The body of Anwarul Alam Shaheed was taken to his Gulshan residence from the hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Family sources said a decision has been taken to bury Anwarul Alam Shaheed's body at the Dhaka Cantonment Graveyard.

However, freedom-fighter at his village home in Tangail district wanted that his body would be taken there so that they could pay him last respect.

It is learnt that Shaheed's body would be kept at the hospital's mortuary today (Thursday). His children would take decision when and where the namaj-e-janaza and burial of Anwarul Alam Shaheed on Friday.

Shaheed was the civilian chief of the Liberation War Kaderia Bahini during the 1971 Liberation War. He took part in all major movements in the country since 1962.

In independent Bangladesh, he held several important positions in the administration and also served as the ambassador to Bahrain and Spain.
