First batch of Rohingyas reach Bhasan Char

The first batch of Rohingyas have reached Noakhali's  Bhasan Char on Friday afternoon.

Eight ships carrying 1,642 forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals reached the island around 2pm.

Earlier, the ships left Chattogram Port at 9am.
On Thursday, the Rohingyas were brought to Chattogram by 20 buses from the refugee camps in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar.

They spent night in temporary 'transit camp' at the BAF Shaheen College ground in Chattogram.

Our Hatiya representatives adds: Of the Rohingyas who came to the island, 810 children, 368 male and 464 female.

According to a Navy official, upon arrival, they underwent a health check-up and then briefed by Navy officials.

Later, they were taken to clusters No 7,8,9,10  and will be distributed cooked food for a week.

Twenty-two NGOs are working in Bhasan Char to provide humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas.

Meanwhile, the BIWTC has given approval to launch a sea-truck service on Boyrar Char-Bhasan Char via Hatiya route for transporting passengers.
