Death during cesarean: Bauphal pvt clinic still open despite closure order

A private clinic at Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali district is still operating its activities ignoring the closure order from Patuakhali civil surgeon office following the death of a pregnant woman during cesarean operation.

A three-member committee was formed to investigate the death of the woman Nipa Rani on September 15 at Seba Diagnostic Centre and Clinic during a surgical operation.

The committee on October 22 submitted its report and the district civil surgeon ordered to shut down the clinic.

According to the investigation report, the registration of the clinic was not renewed, the OT nurses did not have any diploma, there was no MBBS doctor for follow-up after cesarean operations, it was dirty and unclean, there were 16 beds found in the diagnostic centre while it was approved for only 10 and so on.

Contacted, the clinic owner Nazmunnahar Swapna refused to make any comment in this regard.

Bauphal upazila health and family planning officer Dr Prashanta Kumar Saha said the higher authorities will be informed about the matter while Patuakhali Civil Surgeon Jahangir Alam said that action will be taken against the clinic soon.
