![]() Two Jamalpur cops closed over gambling Two policemen of of Tarakandi police investigation centre in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district have been withdrawn over their involvement with gambling. The withdrawn policemen --SI Yunus Ali, constable Monir Uddin-- were closed to the district police lines on Saturday, confirmed Sarishabari Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Abu Md Fazlul Karim. Local sources alleged that a char land in Char Bashuria under Pingna Union of the upazila had turned into a centre of gambling for a long time. On an average, 40-50 gamblers from different areas of Jamalpur, Sirajganj and Tangail districts used to come in Char Bashuria where around Tk 50 lakh used to be gambled from noon to midnight every day. They allegedly gave a large amount of money to the in-charge of nearby Tarakandi police investigation center. On November 26 evening, a clash took place among gamblers over establishing supremacy and sharing money, leaving at least 10 people injured while three of them went missing in the River Jamuna. The missing gamblers are Sanwar Hossain Sanu, 40, Hafizur Rahmna Khan, 45, Fazal Mia, 40. Three general diaries were lodged with the investigation centre by respective families in this regard. Fire Service and Civil Defence divers are conducting rescue operation in the river since Saturday morning. It was alleged that the Investigation Center in-charge Muhammad Tariqul Islam, mediated by SI Yunus Ali, SI Khandaker Khalid Masud and constable Monir Uddin, allow the gambling in exchange of large sums of money.
