At least 10 students of Shah Makhdum Medical College in Rajshahi were injured in an attack by miscreants on the campus on Friday evening.
Injured students who are receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital alleged that the college managing director Moniruzzaman Swadhin hired the goons for attacking them.
On November 2, The government shut down the college for violating the Private Medical College Installation and Operating Rules and Regulations.
Wishing anonymity, a student of the campus said, “On information that a team from Dhaka will come to visit the campus on Saturday, students of the college tried to enter the campus in the afternoon. They were first barred but later allowed to enter the campus. But, the miscreants hired by managing director then locked the college gate and started to beat students with bamboos and rods."
The gate of the college was opened when locals were gathered hearing scream of the students for help.
However, the college managing director Moniruzzaman Swadhin denied his involvement in the attack.
“I was on duty at office during the incident. When I went out of the office, I saw that students were gathered on road and police came to speak to them,” he added.
He further said a group of students are trying to distabilise the situation as a team of Health Ministry scheduled to visit the campus on Saturday. No incident of attack had happened, said Swadhin.
Chandrima Police Station OC Sirajum Monir said being informed, police rushed to the spot. Legal steps to be taken upon receiving complaint, he added.
