Candidate's name appears on dead voters' list

M Kabir Hossain, a councillor candidate for upcoming Manikganj municipal election, was surprised to find his name on a list of dead voters.

Meanwhile, district Election Commission assured of updating the voter list quickly.

Hossain said he had cast vote in both last municipal and national elections.

"I've collected nomination paper for the post of a councillor in ward-7 of Manikganj Municipality on Wednesday. The election office then gave me a CD containing the names of voter. On Thursday morning, I saw my name was shown as a dead person on the printed copy of the list," he said

District EC has been informed about the matter.

District election officer Sheikh M Habibur Rahman said the mistake was made during voter list update in 2019.

But, the lst would be updated soon and Kabir Hossain can participate in the election, he added.

The election to manikganj municipality is scheduled to be held on December 28.
