The High Court (HC) has asked the authorities concerned to investigate the matter over marrying an 11-year-old girl child to an 85-year-old man in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur district.
An HC bench Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice Shahed Nur Uddin passed the order on Tuesday.
It also asked Jamalpur DC, Police Superintendent and Dewanganj Police Station OC to submit an investigation report on November 29.
Confirming media about the court order, deputy attorney ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar said the matter was brought to the notice of the court after a report was published in a media.
According to reports published in different national dailies on November 20, village arbitrators arranged the marriage of a 11-year-old girl with Mahir Uddin,85, at Boyrapara village in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur.
Local people said the girl, a class V student of a madrasa had a relation with Mahir's grandson Shahin,18.
Shahin violated the girl that impregnated her. Later, she was aborted.
As the news spread, village arbitrators in an arbitration, shouldered the responsibility of Shahin's crime on his grandfather.
They issued 10 lashes for Shahin and formed the old man to marry the victim.
