Fire ravages Dhaka’s Sat Tala Slum, 40 shanties gutted

At least 40 shanties were damaged as a massive fire broke out at Sat Tala Slum in the capital’s Mohakhali area on Monday night.

The fire broke out at about 11.45 pm and 11 units of Fire Service and Civil Defense brought the fire under control at about 1.00 am.

No one was injured by the fire.

Reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.

Fire Service and Civil Defense director (Operation and Maintenance) Lieutenant Colonel Zillur Rahman told journalists from the spot that a committee will be formed to investigate the fire incident.

The fire might have gutted 40 to 60 shanties, said the official.

“Eleven units of Fire Service reached the spot at about 11.50 pm but narrow roads and lack of water sources made obstacles to douse the fire quickly,” he added.

Locals, slum dwellers and volunteers of Dhaka North City Corporation were also assisted Fire Service members to bring the fire under control.
