Bangladesh reported 16 new dengue cases in 24 hours until  Monday morning.

Fourteen people were hospitalized with dengue fever in Dhaka city alone and two outside it, the Directorate General of Health said.

Health authorities confirmed 1,026 dengue cases since January and 936 patients have recovered, reports UNB.

According to official figures, 101,354 dengue cases and 179 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh last year.

Meanwhile, dengue fever was first reported in Bangladesh in 2000 and claimed 93 lives. In three years, the fatality number almost fell to zero.

However, the mosquito-borne viral infection struck again in 2018, killing 26, and affecting 10,148.
