JU professor poet Himel Barkat dies

Poet Himel Barkat, a professor of Jahangirnagar University's Bangla Dept, died of cardiac arrest at a city hospital early Sunday.
The 42-year-old professor was the younger brother of late poet Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah.
DU Bangla Dept Chairman Professor Nahid Haque told media that Prof Himel Barkat died at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital around 4:30am on Sunday.
Family sources said Dr Barkat suffered a massive heart attack while taking classes online on Saturday morning. He was then rushed to the Ibrahim Memorial Cardiac Hospital at Shahbagh in Dhaka where he died at about 4:30am on Sunday while underwent treatment.
His brother Daily Prothom Alo's Mongla Correspondent Sumel Sarafat said his brother's family was scheduled to leave Dhaka for Mongla with the dead body after Sunday evening. The body would then be taken to their village home at Mithakhali in Mongla where Dr Barkat would be buried at family graveyard after namaj-e-janaza at 10:00am on Monday.
Late Dr Himel Barkat was the youngest son of late Dr Oliullah, a former physician of Dock Workers' Board of Mongla Port Authority. Himel Barkat had been living in Dhaka with his family.
Apart from a teacher, he was also a poet, litterateur and researcher.
